Current Projects in the Work Driving Safety Area

Newly Licensed Drivers and Heavy Vehicle Interactions

This project involves examining newly licensed drivers and their interactions with heavy vehicles. Results will directly inform licensing policy, education and training for learners.

Multitasking While Driving For Work

We have a number of precept underway exploring the impact of multitasking on drivers and driving safety while driving for work.

Pooled Vehicle Fleets

Familiarisation with a wide variety of pooled vehicles can be a challenge for drivers within work settings due to the wide range of vehicles available in polled fleets. This project will develop resources to assist organisations and drivers to improve vehicle familiarisation and safety.

Rear End Crashes in Vehicle Fleets

Projects in this space are investigating organisational and driver factors that contribute to the prevalence of rear end crashes. A series of resources will be developed and made available to industry upon completion.

Motorcycle Safety

Motorcycles and other vehicle interactions

These projects investigate the various complexities associated with motorcycles and other vehicle interactions and will be utilising our advanced technology to develop a series of interventions and resources to improve the safety of motorcyclists in the on road environment.

Storm and Adverse Weather Conditions

Why and how do people drive in extreme weather conditions

The aim of these projects is to improve our understanding of why people drive in adverse weather and what strategies do they undertake to manage risk.

Cyclone Alfred- Decisions and Driving Habits During the Lead up and Post Cyclone

Our research team investigated community driving during Cyclone Alfred prior to and after landfall. Results provided key insights into driver and community decision making and reasons for driving.

Completed Projects

First on Scene

This project involved multiple stakeholders and the training and development of a training and education program for heavy vehicle drivers to develop knowledge’ skills and abilities in the event of attending as first on scene at a crash. A number of resources for industry are freely available.
